I am trying to be heroic in an age of modernity
I am trying to be heroic, because all around me history sings
So I enjoyed and I devoured flesh and wine and luxury
But in my heart I am lukewarm nothing ever really touches me
At Les Trois Garçons
We meet at precisely
9 o'clock.
I order the foie gras and I eat it with complete disdain
Bubbles rise in champagne flutes,
But when we kiss I feel nothing
Feasting on sleeping pills and Marlboro Reds
(So busy, won't save you)
Oho, How our, how our parents they suffered for nothing
Live the dream, live the dream, live the dream
Like the 80's never happened
People are afraid, are afraid
To merge on the freeway
Disappear here
Stroll the pier
Into the magazine launch party
I am handed a pill, and I swallow with complete disdain
Kick-drum bangs off the high-hat; remembered to look bored
We suck each others' faces and make sure we are noticed
(Cocaine won't save you)
Because East London is a vampire
It sucks the joy right out of me
How we look for corruption in these golden years
Oho, How our, how our parents they suffered for nothing
Live the dream, live the dream, live the dream
Like the 80's never happened
People are afraid, are afraid
To merge on the freeway
Disappear here.
Disappear here.
Disappear here.
Disappear here.
Disappear here.

This is a song inspired by Less Than Zero.
People are afraid, are afraidTo merge on the freeway.
- "People are afraid to merge on freeways in Los Angeles."
Disappear here
Set in L.A. in the early 1980s, this bestselling and coolly mesmerizing novel established its young author as the E Scott Fitzgerald for a generation so irretrievably lost that its motto might be "Disappear here."
Song For Clay
Clay is the main character in Less Than Zero.

According to the Bloc Party site it's:
"...all around me, history SINKS""...kick drum pounds, OFF BEAT hi-hat"
Spot-on other than that :)

Thanks SSD. Is it a good book/movie?
Also: I know some of the lyrics here are incorrect - I made best-guesses on some of the more muffled things..feel free to correct them and I'll fix it asap.

It all looks good except it sounds like it should be "Like the 80s never happened" instead of "How...". Well scribed. I'm really getting into this one - that driving drum beat is brilliant.

I thought it was 'cocaine won't save you' which I think is a great line.

I agree with both the "cocaine won't save you" and "Like the 80's never happened" changes.
I'm not quite sure what the line about coverture means, since that's the commonlaw legal concept of a woman losing certain legal rights upon getting married. weird.
As far as my own suggestions, i would say it's "make sure we ARE noticed." That would seem to make more sense in context, and it's what i hear.
Good Call on the Less Than Zero reference. It makes a ton of sense to me now, since i've read the book as well.
